Why vegan? Because veggies taste good and give you some giddy-up!
The health benefits got me started.
A few short weeks after my breast cancer diagnosis in 2008, I saw the film, Crazy Sexy Cancer, and learned about Kris Carr, a fellow cancer cowgirl, wellness warrior, raw foodie, author, and animal lover. She was an inspiration to me. I decided to follow her suggested lifestyle protocol. After receiving a partial scholarship, I attended an intense 12-day course at The Living Foods Institute in Atlanta, Georgia and adopted a 100% raw vegan food diet to aid in my healing. Dark leafies and green juice became my new best friends!
There are proven health benefits to going vegan. Plus you reduce your impact on the planet, and – if you love animals – it’s a way to show your respect.
Health:
A plant-based diet lowers the risk of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer. Unlike the Standard American Diet (SAD), a well-rounded vegan diet is rich in vitamins, anti-oxidents, fiber, and many vitamins.
Compassion:
We can feed, clothe and bathe ourselves without the use of animal products. Why don’t we?
Peace begins on your plate. Unnecessarily many animals are raised on factory farms where they live in horrific conditions, and are mistreated before they end up on our dinner plates.
Sustainability:
Veganism is an effective way to reduce your eco-footprint. Plant-based diets lower greenhouse gas emissions and are more sustainable especially sustainable for diminishing land and water sources. Get your eco-friendly on!
Some folks wonder if it’s hard to make the switch – no cheese, yogurt, or fancy cowgirl boots. Yes, it can be – at first. But as you wrangle up recipes, new foods, and flavors and cute shoes made without leather, you find it becomes a simple way to live.
Why not go vegan? It’s easy. It’s delicious. It’s cancer fighting. It’s good for the environment. It’s good for the animals. And it’s good for me and good for you!
