Restaurant Review: Nectar Cafe – Auburn, California

unnamed-6

It’s been quite some time since I have shared a veg-friendly restaurant review and I am excited to share this one with you today, especially because it’s one of my local favorites. Nectar Cafe is a relatively new restaurant (open approximately a year and a half) that is nestled in historic downtown Auburn, California in the heart of Northern California’s Gold Country. It’s located directly off Highway 80 between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe (only thirty minutes from my home) and is a must stop on your next trip through Northern California. Whether traveling to ski the slopes or to ride your trusty mountain bike in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Nectar Cafe is the perfect midway stop between both Sacramento/San Francisco Bay Area and Reno/Lake Tahoe.

I frequent this quaint and colorfully painted cafe on a regular basis and have been welcomed warmly by name by owners Tomi and Roy every single visit. This all vegetarian (with lots of vegan options) and organic cafe serves up super fresh whole and mostly living (raw) foods. They have oil free and gluten free options as well. The menu includes:

  • Wraps
  • Soups
  • Salads
  • Superfood Smoothies
  • Fresh Juices
  • Gourmet Coffee
  • Real Cocoa Hot Chocolate
  • Espresso & Cappuccino
  • Desserts
  • & More!

Check out the full Nectar Cafe Menu for an idea of their current seasonal selections. Some of my favorite items include:

Breakfast Granola
Gluten free Oatmeal topped with raisins, cinnamon glazed pecans & diced apple
Nectar Cafe
Yummy chilled Fruit Smoothies
Nectar Cafe baked goods
There are always an array of baked goods to choose from raw to vegan & gluten free
Nectar Cafe's Thai Bowl
Thai Bowl topped with crunchy organic corn chips
Nectar Cafe's Mediterranean Salad
Mediterranean Salad
Nectar Cafe Burger
Housemade Black bean/Sweet potato/Quinoa Burger

I must say of all the items I have sampled, I think I love the burger the best. It’s hardy, super filling, not to mention healthy.

Cowgirl & Nectar Cafe Burger
I love the burger so much I took a picture of myself eating one

I must also attest that the Nachos with vegan chorizo (not pictured) are also quite satisfyingly tasty. Be sure to review the “Specials” board behind the counter as it seems there are always new weekly plates popping up that aren’t listed on the regular menu.

Nectar Cafe hosts a Happy Hour on Friday and Saturday nights from 4pm to 6pm and they’ve recently added dinner specials. They’ve also have live music on Friday nights starting at 6pm (last week’s one man show was amazing!). And the drink menu now includes local beer and wine selections.

Cowgirl Smoothie Nectar Cafe

Have you visited Nectar Cafe? If so, what was your favorite dish? If you haven’t been, I highly recommend this quaint, lovely and healthy cafe. The next time you find yourself traveling amidst Northern California, remember to stop by and when you do, please tell them that the green smoothie lovin’, heart-shaped-sunglass-wearin’, vegan cowgirl sent ya. Yeehaw!

    1. Thank you! I can’t wait to go to the GB now that they are in Roseville. Whereabouts are they?
