Product Review: Jen’s Zen Chocolate Sauces

Duo Chocolate SaucesWith the holidays quickly approaching, I must admit that I have sweets on my mind, not only for self indulgent reasons, but also sweet treats can make great gifts. And, who doesn’t love chocolate, right?

I was recently introduced to Jen’s Zen Chocolate Sauces, a newish chocolate sauce company outside of Boulder, Colorado. This just isn’t any chocolate sauce. Jen’s Zen Chocolate Sauces are certified vegan, gluten free, soy free, 95% organic, corn syrup free, and made from coconut milk. These sauces taste delicious right out of the jar by the spoonful or warmed over ice cream.

Chocolate Sauce

There are three available flavors:

Chocolate ~ Organic coconut cream, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Organic Sugar, Organic Cocoa Liquor, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Cocoa Powder, Arrowroot, Sea salt, Guar gum, Organic Vanilla Beans.

Chocolate Peppermint (not pictured) ~ Organic coconut cream, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Organic Sugar, Organic Cocoa Liquor, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Cocoa Powder and contains less than 2% of the following: Arrowroot, Sunflower, Olive or Palm Oil, Guar gum, Sea Salt, Natural Flavors.

Chocolate Raspberry ~ Organic coconut cream, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Organic Sugar, Organic Cocoa Liquor, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Cocoa Powder and contains less than 2% of the following: Arrowroot, Sunflower, Olive or Palm Oil, Guar gum, Sea Salt, Natural Flavors.

Which is my favorite? Please note that though Jen’s Zen comes in three flavors, I only sampled two: the Chocolate and the Chocolate Raspberry. I am slightly biased as I have never been a fan of chocolate and fruit together (call me crazy) so the Chocolate was the most favorable to my palette.

Raspberry Sauce

Because the sauces are made from coconut (though they don’t taste very coconut-y) they tend to harden in cooler temperatures and soften in warmer weather. One of the best features of this product is that it’s incredibly smooth, like really smooth. Though I haven’t tried it myself, I understand that when chilled, the sauces taste just like fudge.

I’ve been using the sauces sparingly and that’s probably because they are so rich and decadent that a little goes a long way. I’m curious to know what you’d do with the sauces. What do you create with your favorite chocolate sauce? Is there something special for the holidays that you like to create using a sauce like this? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to leave me a comment below.
