ACT Radio Interview: My Cancer Journey & Becoming Vegan

KayleHeadshot

A few months ago I was contacted by one of the hosts of Animal Concerns of Texas (ACT) Radio, a program on KTEP Radio out of El Paso, Texas. They inquired to see if I would be interested in being interviewed about my journey with breast cancer and becoming vegan. Of course I was interested! I love being on the radio! Radio interviews are great fit for me because the audience is totally invisible, a good thing because I tend to get very nervous speaking in front of live crowds. I feel like I can have fun and completely be myself on air. I was totally intrigued by the invitation because many of my vegan superheroes have been interviewed on this very program, and also because I wanted to learn more about these vegan radio hosts in Texas. There are vegans in Texas? Who knew!?!

If you’ve ever wondered how and why I became vegan after being diagnosed with breast cancer at age thirty, and what my journey entailed, or if you just want to hear my Northern California cowgirl radio voice, now is your chance!

A huge thanks goes out to ACT Radio for their gracious invitation to be a guest on their fabulous show. I loved interacting with all three hosts. It was a true pleasure to be a part of their program. Please support the wonderful work they are doing on behalf of animals in the big ol’ state of Texas. Yeehaw!

  1. Howdy Kayle – Congrats on a great interview and for sharing your story. I recently moved back to SoCal from Texas to be with my brother who is recovering from Leukemia. I juice for him every morning and have been showing him how to cook healthy plant-based foods. My brother says he has more energy now, is getting healthy and feels great because he is eating ‘better’ now. I have been vegan for over 5 years and was vegetarian for 20+ years before that. Your story is the ‘why’ behind how I live my life and the ‘why’ I am back here with my brother. love your blog and the NoCal accent 🙂 – Ken

    1. Hi Ken!

Thank you ever so much for your supportive and kind words! I am so glad that you are taking care of your brother and sharing green juice and vegan cooking! That’s great news! Thank you for all that you do to help the planet and animals through your vegan lifestyle. Keep up the great work and all the best to your brother. Yeehaw!

  2. It was great having Kayle on our show. I hope her story inspires many to ACT to reduce their risk for disease or improve their chances for recovery.
    Thanks Kayle, and Yeehaw.

    1. Thanks so much Greg! It was a true honor and a lot of fun to be on your show! Thanks for the opportunity and kind words of support. Yeehaw!

  3. That was a true to heart great interview. I sent it to my sister who is also a breast cancer survivor. She is also a colon cancer survivor but the breast cancer was a lot more extensive including chemo and radiation. She is not vegan, she doesn’t have the best diet but as you say, to each their own. The only thing we can do is be an example. She has grown to be more observant of my choices and is starting to ask more questions. I do what I do for myself, for others and for the animals.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks for your kind words and support Elana!

I just saw your comment today so my apologies for my delay in responding. What we do with our lives and our bodies are our own individual choices, I just try to be the best influence I can be and hope that by living my example will rub off on some. All my best to your sister. I am here if she has any questions. Thanks and yeehaw!
